Wayzata Real Estate

Wayzata is a tony lake-side city known for its upscale retail and restaurant district and award-winning school district of the same name. (ISD 284).
In summer months, residents and visitors are strolling along the water-side walkways, eating ice cream or window shopping along one of several different retail corridors. Anchored by national retailers, boutique shops provide unique finds. Restaurants such as Six Smith, Cove and Bellacor, a French-inspired bistro and bakery that has won national accolades, are among some of the finest dinings in the Twin Cities. The new Hotel Landing hosts visitors who enjoy a lake-side view.
Wayzata features a historic train station, a reminder of the city’s squabble with railroad baron James J. Hill who places the tracks along the most scenic part of the city, right along Lake Minnetonka. Derived from the American Sioux Indian word Wayzata, meaning “North Shore,” Wayzata was originally founded in the 1850s. Thanks to that railroad, it became a vacation spot for Southerners after the Civil War and soon turned into a resort town.
Exclusively on Wayzata Bay, Wayzata retains that resort feeling. It borders Gleason Lake, Browns Gay, and Gray’s Bay. Big Woods Park Preserve and Wayzata Beach allow nature lovers a peaceful retreat. Golfers and tennis enthusiasts flock to Wayzata Country Club. Boaters are seen in large numbers at Wayzata Yacht Club, where sailboats are perpetually seen bobbing in the water.
Today, Wayzata houses approximately 4,000 residents and is a mere 12 miles from downtown Minneapolis. Residents send their children to the award-winning Wayzata School District. Homes, which sell for an average of $340 per square foot, range from condos, remodeled homes and multi-million-dollar lake-side manses. Some of the Twin Cities most influential residents call Wayzata home.
